and do we want it to

2020

For this project, I decided to make a continuation/response to my series Nothing Really Changes, this expansion asks and do we want it to?

Inspired by Kory Floyd's The Loneliness Cure, this work focuses on the concept of affection depravity. With the current state of the world, regarding the pandemic, our loneliness is being heightened. This constant isolation is making us find new ways to make meaningful connections with those important to us. While loneliness can be both situational or chronic, in the moment it can and will take a toll on our minds and bodies.

So with that in mind, I decided to create a series of images that had small and isolated subjects within a vast environment/background. In the previous project, I focused on the heavier emotions when faced with isolation, but in and do we want it to I wanted to showcase that these figures are alone but not lonely. It is meant to depict my own realization that sometimes you do not always need a drastic change in your life. It is helpful and often necessary to find positivity and be content with your current state of being. I feel like I always need big changes and spontaneity so I do not have to deal with the plateau of life, but that is just my way of avoiding having to fix the problems I see. This series is my way of reminding myself to stop seeking constant change and just enjoy what I have around me now.
